Data center power by county
Screening-grade power and grid profiles for every United States county, built from public grid data.
Public source data as of Sep 5, 2026.
What this is
Each county profile is a screening-grade summary of the public grid picture around it: the utilities whose territory covers it, its organized market if any, the highest transmission voltage reachable nearby, substation count, the state industrial retail rate, and any interconnection queue on record. The figures come from public sources, including HIFLD infrastructure layers, the ISO and RTO footprints, EIA rate and balancing authority data, and interconnection queues, listed on each county page and on the methodology page. They describe surrounding infrastructure, not any specific parcel.
A county appears only when it has enough complete data to profile, so the set grows as the underlying data fills in.
What this map does not cover
The map is honest about its edges. Naming them is the point, so a reader knows exactly where the data stops.
- Interconnection queues cover three operators of seven. MISO, ERCOT, and NYISO publish queues on terms that allow this use. PJM, CAISO, SPP, and ISO New England are not shown. PJM is called out on the map as a pending exclusion because its terms forbid redistribution and a licence conversation is open; the other three are simply not ingested yet.
- 36 published counties have no carbon figure. eGRID publishes no output rate for their balancing authority, so the carbon layer reads “no eGRID rate” there rather than guessing a number.
- 53 of 3144 counties do not publish. A county appears only when it has enough complete data to profile. The remaining 3,091 are live; the rest fill in as their underlying data does.
- The industrial rate is a state average. It is the same figure for every county in a state and has no utility dimension, so read it as a state-level benchmark, not a county price.
